*****MEDIA ADVISORY FOR TOMORROW MAY 23, 11:45 AM EST*****
LATINO YOUTH TO PROTEST RUBIO/ROMNEY DUO AT SUMMIT FOR HARMFUL IMMIGRATION & ECONOMIC POSITIONS
Washington, DC – While
Sen. Marco Rubio has said that undocumented children and the children
of undocumented immigrants were blameless, his legislative record hasn’t
followed his rhetoric. Rubio recently introduced legislation (S. 3083)
to restrict the child tax credit to US citizens only. This tax credit
is designed to help children, not their parents, and in 2009 was
credited with preventing 1.3 million children from sinking into
poverty.
Undocumented
youth and U.S. citizen children of undocumented immigrants will be
rallying outside the Chamber of Commerce to pressure Rubio to retract
S.3083 and distance himself from Romney who has taken an unacceptable
and harmful stance on immigration. Rubio and Romney fail to understand
that the immigrant community, particularly undocumented youth, are starting businesses at a faster rate than native born citizens.
By embracing anti-immigrant legislation they are not only attacking
Latino families but also hurting Latino businesses and the U.S. Economy.
WHO: DC & MD DREAMers and U.S. citizen children of undocumented immigrants.
WHAT: Rally to protest Rubio/Romney Duo for their Harmful Immigration and Economic Positions.
WHEN: May 23, 2012 - 11:45 pm ET
WHERE: U.S. Chamber of Commerce at 1615 H Street, NW, Washington, DC 20062.
DRM Capitol
Group serves as a voice for undocumented youth and lobbying arm of the
dream movement. Our work ensures that undocumented youth are represented
in the halls of power and are correctly and directly informed of the
actions of Congress, Executive Agencies, and the Courts.
